Anthropocentricism.......

The issue has now subsided, but it was on my mind since long....and reminded me of some of the ecological ethics lectures in Environmental Science course ( i really slept very little through those few lectures :P ). Issue was regarding the attack of panther on little innocent puppies outside our hostel. Soon after it we were given instructions to not to feed those puppies or their mom with biscuits and stuff. This was to keep them away from the hostel, and hence the panther. I guess it was a very obvious and wise instruction for we humans, even i might be a big hypocrite and following it. But then the thought keeps pinching me again and again especially when i see the poor mom of those puppies lying listlessly at our hostel gate :(..........how mean we are....we tend to mould everything the way it suits us..for the sake of humanity...irrespective of other living creatures..even some of the drives for saving extinct or rare species are driven by our interests.....its all for humans!
The associated technical term is Anthropocentricism....
I am not someone really really affectionate for animals.....or planning to do some Maneka Gandhi......but just had this passing thought which i penned down here......since just couldnt stop pondering upon the plight of the poor mother who lost her puppies.....contrasting with the protective measures taken by us !!
