Ta na na nana na na naaa.....taa na na nana nana naaa......
yeah...just recalling Malgudi days...i wish it would hit the screen again with the same old genuinely genuine DD1 !
Although I dont have any clear picture of myself watching Malgudi days as a kid...but my mom tells me that all three of us sat hooked up to TV when 'Swami' was on screen.
Still i do remember so much more of the good old DD channel.....Mowgli and his selfless Jungle friends.....babaji ki potli....the strange yet lovable Stone Boy.....Alice taking us to wonderland....the materialized Gayab Aaya....chhipkali ke nana, danasur....summer time with chhutti chhutti...and soo much more for we the kids. The simplicity was alluring enough to pull viewers of every age. Then there were the friday night movies for which my bro and i sat with all the preparations to finish it off till the end, with me always ending up sleeping before 'the end' and my bro always sustaining it. Sunday mornings were also not difficult waking up with Rangoli adorning the screen. I soo hated getting up late on sundays then.
Apart from this, how can i miss the mention of our epics turned into the historical episodes of Ramayan and Mahabharat! Elders cant help mentioning the deserted roads when these wonders were hitting the screen. All sized members of the families used to sit lined up leaving all the worldly matters aside! Such was the aura of Indian mythology portrayed on television. My father mentioned that he had been to many field trips during that period, and if his 'on trip' time clashed with Ramayana he used to stop by villages where people sat huddled up around a community television, to get a glimpse.
Mahabharata was effectual to the extent as my mom tells, 'My elder bro was so petrified on seeing 'Abhimanyu wadh' that he hid behind a door and watched the whole incident from there, and cried a lot after it ended'....still I don't have even a fazed memory of that...i desperately wish to witness the grandeur of golden days of DD1 and Indian television.
It is possible to watch all this stuff from various sources now, but still that simpler television, with no 'never ending non hooking options to fiddle with remotes' was a good one to spend your 'fursat ke pal ' with your family!
It seriously wouldn't be a bad idea for some channel to offer that era again!
